Students
were assigned an Advent project today. Yes, Advent is right around the corner :-).
They will make a three dimensional ornament that is based on a person or event in
biblical history that was assigned to them today.
The ornament can be made of any material as long as it is three
dimensional and it can be secured to the tree.
The ornament is a symbol, not a direct creation of the person or
event. Students will also write a
paragraph that describes the symbol and what it means. For example, if the
student was assigned Noah and the ark, the ornament could be an ornament with a
rainbow, representing how God would never leaves us. In the paragraph, students should creatively interpret and explain the symbol.
Due
date is Tuesday, November 22nd.
This
will be a quiz grade.

The students learned the definition of map view (aka plan view) -- "map drawn as if you were looking down on an area from above the Earth's surface." In class we began drawing the plan view for their respective bedroom. The view in their room would be as if a camera was looking down from their ceiling. Students should measure the length and width of their room and any furniture dimensions. They can "measure" using a measuring devise (ruler, etc) or by their pace. Nothing exact -- estimates are fine :-). We'll discuss scale in class.

They will choose one occupation in the earth science field and complete a matrix (format provided in class) describing key facts, illustration and other areas. Students are using the web site "Science Buddies" (key word occupation) . http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-engineering-careers#earthphysicalsciences. They can use the paper matrix they were provided or build in PowerPoint a chart that looks identical to the format provided. The matrix was emailed to all home emails this morning. We will spend more time on the matrix tomorrow.
